Hi, I’m Azariah Bowden!

This isn’t just a business, it’s a reflection of what I believe in.

My path into mental performance began through my own experiences as an athlete and continued through coaching and graduate study in counseling with a concentration in Sport Psychology at Boston University. These experiences have allowed me to see performance from multiple perspectives; first as an athlete, then as a coach, and now as a mental performance consultant.

Through MyndShift Performance, I help athletes develop practical mental skills that they can use in training and competition. My approach focuses on helping athletes become more aware of their thoughts and responses, develop greater confidence and focus, navigate pressure and setbacks, and take intentional action toward the athlete they want to become.

I don't believe mental performance is about always feeling confident or never making mistakes. It's about learning how to respond when confidence wavers, pressure rises, or things don't go according to plan.

My goal is to give athletes more than a collection of mental skills. I want them to develop an understanding of how their mind influences their performance and how they can learn to work with it rather than against it.

Our Approach

Our approach is grounded in the belief that athletes do not need to eliminate fear, doubt, frustration, or pressure in order to perform well. Instead, they can learn to recognize what is happening in the moment, respond to challenges more effectively, and direct their attention toward what they can control.

We help athletes develop the awareness and skills to:

  • Recognize thought patterns that may interfere with performance and learn to approach them more effectively.

  • Stay present and focused when distractions, mistakes, or pressure arise.

  • Build confidence through intentional preparation, action, and reflection.

  • Develop constructive responses to setbacks rather than allowing one moment to define their performance.

  • Manage emotions and physiological responses that can influence performance.

  • Clarify what matters to them as an athlete and use those values to guide their actions.

  • Develop individualized routines, strategies, and mental skills they can apply in training and competition.

We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to mental performance. Every athlete brings a different story, culture, personality, goals, strengths, and challenges to their sport. Our work is designed to meet athletes where they are while giving them practical tools they can continue to use independently.

Ultimately, mental performance is not about becoming an athlete who never struggles. It is about becoming an athlete who knows how to respond when things don't go as planned.
